Little Girls And Boys

When you and I were very young

All of the guns we used were toys.

And all the games were make believe

In the minds of Little Girls And Boys,

In the minds of Little Girls And Boys.

We used to wipe the tears away

And love each other just the same.

We used to laugh without cause

And then we learned to play the game.

And then we learned to play this game.

Put on your mask first thing each day

And you hide your feelings far below.

When it hurts so bad you wanna scream

Just wear a smile.  Don’t let them know.

Just wear a smile.  Don’t let them know.  And so,

We build a wall.  We build it high.

We walk the path so straight and thin.

We try to keep the pain away.

We find we’ve walled the madness in.

We find we’ve walled the madness in.

So if you’re feelin’ kind of old,

Like the twilight’s taken all your joys.

Why don’t you look at life again

Through the eyes of Little Girls And Boys?

Through the eyes of Little Girls And Boys?

So when you leave this life behind.

And once again they spin the wheel

To send you back another time

God grant you strength to make it real.

God grant you strength to make it real.

When you and I were very young

All of the guns we used were toys.

And all the games were make believe

In the minds of Little Girls And Boys,

In the minds of Little Girls And Boys.

NOTES:  I wrote this song in 1975 when my children were very small and very innocent and I was reflecting on the changes we all go through as we learn and grow.
