Untangle The Lines
If you don’t want what you got, like it or not
It’s time to reenter the mines.
To open the door, to search for the ore
To try to Untangle The Lines.
Just try to Untangle The Lines.
With amazing recall you remember it all,
How you pleaded and swore to repent,
To cling to the top in an effort to stop
The wonderful pain of descent,
That wonderful pain of descent.
But the screens are all down and the soft velvet gown
Tumbles carelessly over the wall.
Your visions are clear and the sounds that you hear
Just get nearer the farther you fall.
They get nearer the farther you fall.
You hear maddening screams from the demon that seems
To be somewhere inside of your breast.
You can still feel the trace of that frozen embrace.
You can still hear that solemn request.
You can still hear that solemn request.
To surrender your soul, to reenter the whole,
To cautiously walk to the edge,
And closing your eyes and facing the skies,
You carelessly slip from the ledge.
You carelessly slip from the ledge.
An’ down in the Hell at the base of that well
You dangle, the marionette,
And your spirit belongs to your dreams and your songs
And you rapidly learn to forget.
You rapidly learn to forget.
And when everything’s gone and you’re finally alone
You glance at the top of that hill
An’ you resolve one more time to make that long climb,
Believin’ that this time you will.
You’re believin’ that this time you will.
So, if you don’t want what you got, like it or not
It’s time to reenter the mines.
To open the door, to search for the ore
And to try to Untangle The Lines.
I’m just tryin’ to Untangle The Lines.

NOTES: Everybody reaches that point where you have to make a significant change no matter how difficult it appears to be, where you have to cast off everything that's wrong and try again, try to untie the tangled knots.
