What Are You Gonna Do?
I used to be a super hero but now my world’s a little broken down.
I had no problem with tall buildings. I could leap ‘em in a single bound.
To stop a locomotive, I only needed one hand.
Teflon coated and bullet proof. I had the world at my command.
Faster than a speeding bullet, I had the world in the palm of my hand.
But the times are changin’ and I’m changin’ too.
I’ve been doin’ a little rearrangin’. Hey, What Are You Gonna Do?
I used to be a knight in shining armor. Now there’s rust on my shield and sword.
I used to be a little like Lancelot. Now I’m just a little bit bored.
I’ve jousted with Sir Galahad an’ I’ve partied with Genevieve,
Dining on caviar and burgundy. Now it’s just biscuits and beer.
Living in the court of Arthur was a damn long way from here.
But the times were changin’. Now I’m changin’ too.
I’ve been doin’ a little rearrangin’. Hey, What Are You Gonna Do?
I used to be a dusty cowboy out on the open range.
But ropin’ steers and drinkin’ beers all got a little too strange.
I’d ride face into the wind but when the dark clouds started to form
I turned my back to the drivin’ rain, lookin’ for a way to stay warm
I traded my boots and my saddle for a little shelter from the storm.
Yeah, but the times were changin’. I’m changin’ too.
I’ve been doin’ a little rearrangin’. Hey, What Are You Gonna Do?
I used to be a soldier of fortune fighting in foreign lands.
I’d kill for pay and let the spoils of war flow through my dirty hands.
I really had no problem playing the part of the pawn.
Living in the shadow of darkness, avoiding the light of dawn.
But that was another time my friend. Those days are gone.
And the times are changin’. I’m changin’ too.
I’ve been doin’ some rearrangin’. Hey, What Are You Gonna Do?
I used to be a river boat pirate. The Jolly Roger was my flag.
With a diamond in my ear and a ring in my nose, I used to go dressed in drag.
I traveled the whole world over an’ every mile took its toll.
I lost everything that I had one time including my self control
But I never crossed those lines in the sand. I never sold my soul for gold.
But the times are changin’ and I’m changin’ too.
I’ve been doin’ some rearrangin’. Hey, What Are You Gonna Do?
I shared a capsule with Major Tom when I was young and strong.
But I didn’t listen to ground control. I didn’t keep my helmet on.
I’ve been spaced out in outer space. I crossed that final frontier.
But time and space are curved my friends. Albert was right it’s clear.
If you travel forever in one straight line, you’re gonna end up right back here.
And the times are changin’. I’m changin’ too.
I’ve been doin’ some rearrangin’. Hey, What Are You Gonna Do?
I used to be a super hero but now my world’s a little broken down.
I had no problem with tall buildings. I could leap ‘em in a single bound.

Yeah, I’ve been doin’ a little rearrangin’. What Are You Gonna Do?

NOTES: A series of metaphorical Images and tales of events in my life, this tune paraphrases Mr. Zimmerman in reminding us all that change is constant, perpetual and eternal and to survive we need to be changin', too.
